Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a giant ball (11 to 16 in. circumference) on a field that has base lengths of 60 feet, a pitcher’s mound that ranges from 35–43 feet away from home plate, and a home run fence that is 220–300 feet away from home plate, depending on the type of softball being played. It was invented in 1887 in Chicago, Illinois, the United States, as an indoor game. Females mostly play it. It was often called kitten ball, indoor baseball, mush ball, playground, softbound ball, and because girls and women, ladies’ baseball also played it. The actual name softball was given to this game in 1926.

The main differences between Baseball and Softball are:

Pitching: The other significant pitching difference is that softball pitchers deliver the ball in an underhand motion; baseball pitchers can throw overhand or even sidearm if they choose.
Distance from the pitcher’s area to home plate: At the beginning levels of youth softball, pitchers generally deliver pitches about 35 feet from home plate. At the higher levels of play, pitchers throw balls from 40 feet.
Base paths: The base paths in softball are several feet shorter than those in baseball.
Field size: A typical distance from home plate to the outfield fence in softball is 150 feet for the younger kids, while it extends to 225 to 250 feet for the older kids.
Size of the ball: A regulation softball is significantly larger than a regulation baseball.

Softball is a great sport that involves less muscle and more intellect. Softball players must always think ahead and make decisions while in duress as they run the field scenarios to win the game.

In honour of this fantastic sport. We searched the internet for some of the best softball and sports quotes of all time. Quotes from well-known players like Jennie Finch to six-time all-star pitcher Cat Osterman will cover mental toughness, team building, hitting and pitching and overall inspiration!
