I don’t trust anyone who says they don’t like Taco Bell.
Chances are they’re either a liar or an alien and I don’t have room in my life for either of those.
My homemade Crunchwrap Supreme recipe is easily the most popular recipe on our site. It has been viewed a few milliontimes and pinned two million times!
It’s universally beloved and for good reason – it’s delicious AF.
The Crunchwrap is my favorite item on the Taco Bell menu. Since you guys loved it so much, I wanted to make a homemade version of my second favorite Taco Bell item – the chicken quesadilla. If you’ve had one, you know it’s covered in this amazing creamy yet spicy sauce.
That sauce is pretty much what makes the Taco Bell quesadilla unique.
The first step in creating a homemade version of this recipe is to recreate the special sauce.
Luckily it is pretty simple. You will need mayo for the base and a few spices like cayenne & garlic as well as some pickled jalapeños.
I always order a side of pico and sour cream when I hit up the Taco Bell drive-through. To me, this completes any quesadilla.
Janette prefers to eat hers plain, so I won’t fault you if you do too.
What recipe should I copycat next? I’m thinking maybe those new Taco Bell fries….

Ingredients
Taco Bell Quesadilla Sauce Ingredients:
1/4 Cup Mayo
2 Tsp Minced Pickled Jalapenos
2 Tsp Pickled Jalapeno Juice
2/3 Tsp Sugar
1/2 Tsp Cumin
1/2 Tsp Paprika
1/8 Tsp Cayenne Pepper
1/8 Tsp Garlic Powder
1 Dash Salt
Taco Bell Quesadilla Ingredients:
1 Chicken Breast
1 Cup Cheddar & Monterey Jack Cheese (If you can’t find a bag that’s a mix, just buy them separately and use 1/2 cup of each)
1 Slice American Cheese
2 Flour Tortillas (Burrito size)
Instructions
How To Make Taco Bell Quesadilla Sauce:
Add all ingredients to a small bowl. Stir well to combine. Set aside.
How To Make Taco Bell Quesadilla:
Salt & pepper chicken breast on both sides. Heat 1 1/2 Tbsp of vegetable oil over medium-high heat in a skillet. Add chicken breast and cook until done (when internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F). Remove chicken from skillet and thinly slice.
Place tortilla on hot skillet. On one side of the tortilla, place 1/4 cup of the shredded cheese and 1/2 slice of American cheese. Place half of the chicken on top of the cheese.
On the other side, spread about 1.5 tablespoons of the sauce. Fold tortilla over and press gently with your spatula. Cook until cheese is melted and bubbly, 2-4 minutes each side.
Use a pizza cutter to slice each quesadilla into 4 pieces.

Made these with Tyson fajita chicken strips and jalapeño candy. Aka cowboy candy. Was pretty good but will use less Mayo next time.

These were absolutely fantastic. I made enough sauce and chicken to have them 2 days in a row and I made a change that my wife said made it better than even taco bells. I replaced ALL of the cheeses listed with Mexican style four cheese (Monterey Jack, Cheddar, Asadero, and quesadilla). We both agreed that the American cheese definitely threw in a flavor that didn’t fit the taco bell flavor profile.
We will definitely be making these again soon, just with that 1 change in place.

I respectfully disagree! I would’ve NEVER thought of putting American cheese in the quesadilla but it works. I’m convinced TB uses American cheese in theirs.

This has become a part of my regular recipe rotation and one of my husband’s favorite meals of all time. I usually double it and divide the fillings between 5 tortillas – and we finish them all! It also reheats well if you have a couple leftover. Just store them in the fridge and pop them in the oven for about 10 minutes. I always serve these with homemade pico de gallo and guacamole – sooo good.

Amazing! Everyone just loves them, and me too. I don’t go to Taco Bell for quesadillas anymore (unless it’s an emergency lol) because I know I can make them, even better, at home.

I didn’t follow the recipe exactly because I didn’t have all of the ingredients on hand (missing the jalapenos and juice), but the sauce for this recipe is spot on and I can’t wait to find other uses for this! Thanks for the recipe!

I feel like I must be missing something… the ingredients call for 1 cup of shredded cheese, but the instructions say to use 1/4 cup on each of two tortillas, for 1/2 cup total. Which figure is correct?
Been going with 1/2 cup each and it turns out great!

This was by far the best chicken quesadilla I have ever had! I never leave reviews but felt compelled. I did make a couple small changes because I just can’t resist when I’m cooking. I did half sour cream/half mayo and a dash of taco seasoning.

It’s sooo good. Ngl I get upset at people who tweak the recipe before trying the original but I found your recipe after making the sauce from another recipe that used 1/2 & 1/2 Mayo and sour cream. It also didn’t use sugar and added onion powder. BUT, I didn’t even think to use American cheese. I definitely think the TB version uses some kind of American cheese. Anyway it was delicious and I don’t have to pay $5.50 for a TB one that hasn’t got enough cheese or chicken!

I had no salsa to make quesadillas and I found this recipe. It’s delicious! To slightly lighten it up I used half Hellmann’s light mayo and half labneh. It works like a charm.
Labneh is a strained yogurt- More strained than Greek yogurt and is thicker and spreadable. The tang of yogurt is in the watery whey so labneh doesn’t have that tang.

The sauce was SPOT ON. I added a little bit more of the pickled jalapeno juice and more salt to the sauce, but once I did that, it was a perfect copy of Taco Bell’s quesadilla sauce! I’m a little excited right now because our quesadillas were SO GOOD!

I’ve tried two other copycat recipes and wasn’t impressed. While I’m not sure this recipe tastes EXACTLY like Taco Bell, it’s still SO good that I’ll never eat a quesadilla without it. I also put it in burritos, on nachos, and dip southwestern taquitos in it. Thank you!

We made this recipe, we tripled it. Everyone really enjoyed it, however it was very sweet. So I think next time we will only put half the amount of sugar in. Other than that it was a huge hit in our home.
