Florida softball vs Oklahoma final score, highlights as Gators force decisive game for WCWS berth (2024)

Craig MeyerUSA TODAY NETWORK

Florida softball isn't done yet.

Faced with the daunting task of needing to win two straight games against Oklahoma, which had won its last 20 NCAA Tournament games heading into Monday, the Gators made a statement after a lengthy weather delay with a 9-3 victory over the Sooners to force a decisive game that was postponed to Tuesday.

Florida was led by Skylar Wallace and Reagan Walsh who had seven of the Gators' nine runs driven in (three and four, respectively). Ace Keagan Rothrock threw a complete game and allowed three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts, all despite seven walks.

Florida got to both Nicole May and Kierston Deal over the course of the game, with both Oklahoma pitches struggling to miss Gator bats.

Florida now enters a winner-take-all game against Oklahoma to be played Tuesday as it looks to make its first WCWS final since 2017. The winners of two Women's College World Series (2014, 2015), Florida is seeking a chance to play either Texas or Stanford for a chance at its third.

Final: Florida 9, Oklahoma 3

Top of the seventh inning: Florida 9, Oklahoma 3

5:47 p.m.: Boone flies out to right field and that'll do it. Florida tops Oklahoma 9-3 to snap the Sooners' 20-game NCAA Tournament win streak and force a rematch tomorrow in which the winner will move on to the WCWS championship series. Oklahoma's tournament win streak was the longest in Division I history.

What an accomplishment for the Gators, who live to fight another day.

5:46 p.m.: Another walk, this one to Hansen. Bases loaded for Oklahoma with two outs.

5:42 p.m.: Another walk for Oklahoma, which now has runners at first and second. Rothrock struggling with her command this inning, with three walks.

5:41 p.m.: Brito walks to give Oklahoma a base-runner at first and keep the Sooners' dim hopes alive.

5:39 p.m.: After Jennings gets a leadoff walk, Parker lines out to first base, with Florida getting a force out at first for a double play. One out away for the Gators.

Bottom of the sixth inning: Florida 9, Oklahoma 3

5:33 p.m.: Call is upheld and on the next pitch, Goddard strikes out swinging. First time today the Gators haven't gotten at least one run in an inning today.

5:32 p.m.: Florida challenging, arguing Baylee Goddard was hit by a pitch. Call on the field was a ball. Looks like Goddard might have been grazed, but also looked to lean into it a bit.

5:29 p.m.: Pitching change for Oklahoma, with Karlie Keeney coming into the game for Kierston Deal.

5:27 p.m.: Kistler flies out to left field. Two away.

5:25 p.m.: Avery Goelz leads off the inning by grounding out to first, with Sanders collecting the ball and beating Goelz to first with a head-first dive in which her glove hit the base to get the out.

Top of the sixth inning: Florida 9, Oklahoma 3

5:20 p.m.: Florida's now three outs away from forcing another game tomorrow. A fielder's choice gets a runner out at second while the runners beats out a potential double play at first. But Coleman pops out to center the next at-bat, ending the top half of the inning.

5:19 p.m.: Rothrock gets her third strikeout of the day, with Sanders going down swinging for a much-needed first out of the inning.

5:16 p.m.: Back to back singles for Oklahoma give the Sooners runners on first and second to start the inning, with Cydney Sanders up to bat.

Bottom of the fifth inning: Florida 9, Oklahoma 3

5:12 p.m.: After a lengthy at-bat, Erickson pops out to first base to end the inning.

5:06 p.m.: Otis walks, sending Erickson up to the plate with a chance to run-rule her former team with a home run.

5:04 p.m.: Florida gave away two runs in the top half of the inning, but it just got two back. Skylar Wallace gets her second homer of the day, a shot to center field that just clears the wall. Gators' lead back up to six, 9-3.

5:02 p.m.: Falby pops out to left field. Two outs.

5:01 p.m.: Emily Wilkie, pinch-hitting for Mia Williams, grounds out, but gets Barnard to second base. One out.

5 p.m.: Ava Brown earns a leadoff walk for Florida, with Brooke Barnard coming in as a pinch runner.

Top of the fifth inning: Florida 7, Oklahoma 3

4:55 p.m.: Florida limits the damage to the two runs, with a groundout ending the inning and stranding two on base for Oklahoma. Gators are six outs away from setting up a rematch tomorrow.

4:54 p.m.: Another base-runner for Oklahoma, with Alyssa Brito getting walked to put runners on first and second.

4:51 p.m.: Ella Parker gets a line drive single that goes off Wallace's glove at shortstop. Oklahoma rallying here, down four with a runner at first with two outs.

4:49 p.m.: Florida won't exit the inning unscathed. Tiare Jennings goes opposite field and just barely clears the right field wall for a two-run homer to get Oklahoma within four, 7-3.

4:48 p.m.: Jayda Coleman pops out to center, with Hodge remaining on second. Two outs.

4:46 p.m.: Avery Hodge drills a shot to right center, which Kistler gets her glove to, but is unable to make what would have been an extraordinary catch. Hodge gets to second with one out for the Sooners.

4:45 p.m.: Cydney Sanders flies out in foul territory to open the inning for Oklahoma. One down.

Bottom of the fourth inning: Florida 7, Oklahoma 1

4:40 p.m.: Kowalewski strikes out to end the inning, but safe to say, Florida did what it needed to after Oklahoma scored its first runs of the day.

4:39 p.m.: Right after Walsh's homer, Kistler draws a walk. The inning continues.

4:37 p.m.: Walsh might have just broken the game open. Drills a three-run homer to left field, giving her four RBI today. Florida's lead is now up to 7-1. What an afternoon so far for the Gators.

4:33 p.m.: Erickson walks, keeping the inning alive and giving Florida runners on first and second with two outs and Walsh up to the plate.

4:30 p.m.: Back to back outs for the Gators, with Wallace striking out swinging and Otis flying out to center field. Falby remains on first base.

4:27 p.m.: Yet another promising start to the inning for Florida. Falby gets a leadoff infield single.

Top of the fourth inning: Florida 4, Oklahoma 1

4:23 p.m.: Rylie Boone pops out to right field for the third out, helping Florida get out of the inning with just one run allowed. Gators will have a chance to continue their streak of innings with at least a run.

4:20 p.m.: Kinzie Hansen hits a grounder up the middle to send Pickering home, who had swiped second base earlier in the at-bat. Sooners are on the board, down 4-1.

4:17 p.m.: Pickering reaches first base on a fielder's choice, but the Gators get Parker out at second. Two outs, with a runner on first for Oklahoma.

4:15 p.m.: Alyssa Brito pops out to center field, with Parker remaining on first. One out.

4:14 p.m.: Oklahoma gets its first hit of the day, an Ella Parker single to center field.

Bottom of the third inning: Florida 4, Oklahoma 0

4:10 p.m.: Mia Williams strikes out to end the inning, but for the third time in as many innings, the Gators get at least one run across the plate.

4:07 p.m.: Just when it looks like Florida might squander its opportunity, it gets a huge hit. Ava Brown with a double that goes all the way back to the wall drives in another run while sending Walsh to third. Runners on second and third with two outs for the Gators, who are now up 4-0.

4:06 p.m.: Another infield pop out, this one to shortstop from Kowalewski. Two outs and Oklahoma is very nearly out of the jam.

4:04 p.m.: Kistler pops out to second base on a ball that very nearly dropped. Runners stay on first and third. One out. Oklahoma desperately needed that if it hopes to get out of this inning without giving up any more runs.

4:01 p.m.: A pitching change for Oklahoma, with Nicole May out of the game and Kierston Deal in. Tough spot to enter the game for the North Carolina native.

4 p.m.: The hits keep coming for Florida. Walsh slaps a line-drive single to right field, sending Erickson to third. Runners at the corners for the Gators with no outs. Big, big opportunity to add to that cushion.

3:57 p.m.: Jocelyn Erickson opens up the inning against her former team with a leadoff single to center.

Top of the third inning: Florida 3, Oklahoma 0

3:55 p.m.: Another warning track shot for Oklahoma, this one to right field, but Kistler brings it in to end the top half of the inning. Sooners still without a run and Florida about to get a chance to add on to its lead.

3:54 p.m.: Jayda Coleman hits it deep to left field, but Otis brings it in on the warning track.

3:53 p.m.: Avery Hodge grounds out for Oklahoma. One down.

Bottom of the second inning: Florida 3, Oklahoma 0

3:48 p.m.: Korbe Otis flies out to end the inning. But what an inning it was for Florida.

3:46 p.m.: How does Florida follow it up? With another home run, this one in the more traditional way. Skylar Wallace belts a homer deep over the right field wall, 243 feet and with an exit velocity of 77 miles per hour. Gators now up 3-0.

3:44 p.m.: Falby made one amazing play in the field; now, she does it at the plate and on the base paths. Falby hits a bloop along the left field line, with Oklahoma's Rylie Boone laying out to try to catch the ball, but it gets past her and all the way back to the wall, with Falby making it all the way home for an inside-the-park home run. 2-0 advantage now for Florida.

What timing, too. Breaks a 0 for 18 slump for Falby at the WCWS.

3:43 p.m.: Mia Williams strikes out. Two outs now.

3:39 p.m.: Ava Brown flies out to center for the Gators. One out.

Top of the second inning: Florida 1, Oklahoma 0

3:36 p.m.: Cydney Sanders strikes out and ends Oklahoma's chance in the second of tying the game up.

3:35 p.m.: What a catch from Falby, who runs down a deep fly to center, snags it and holds Pickering at third.

3:33 p.m.: Kinzie Hansen grounds out, but Pickering advances to third base.

3:30 p.m.: Kasidi Pickering gets on base for Oklahoma with a leadoff walk and advances to second base on a wild pitch the next at-bat.

Bottom of the first inning: Florida 1, Oklahoma 0

3:27 p.m.: Ariel Kowalewski grounds out to end the inning. Two runners stranded, but Florida gets an early lead.

3:24 p.m.: Katie Kistler walks. Runners on first and second for Florida with two outs. Chance to do some more early damage.

3:22 p.m.: Gators are on the board. Walsh hits a bloop single to left along the left-field line, sending Otis home and giving Florida a 1-0 advantage against the reigning national champs.

3:21 p.m.: Erickson strikes out, but Otis swipes second base in the process. Runner in scoring position and two outs with Reagan Walsh up at the plate.

3:19 p.m.: Korbe Otis gets an infield single, beating out a throw to first. Jocelyn Erickson up to bat now against her former team.

3:17 p.m.: Skylar Wallace flies out to deep center, all the way back to the warning track on a solidly hit ball. One out.

Top of the first inning: Florida 0, Oklahoma 0

3:13 p.m.: Oklahoma grounds out to end the inning. Not quite one-two-three, but the next-best thing.

3:12 p.m.: Rothrock strikes out Oklahoma's Ella Parker swinging. Two outs.

3:11 p.m.: A hard line drive to deep center field from Tiare Jennings is caught by Florida's Kendra Falby. One out.

3:10 p.m.: Jayda Coleman draws a walk to lead the inning off for Oklahoma. And proceeds to celebrate like she just hit a homer. Sooners are energetic out of the gate.

Pregame

2:54 p.m.: Now Florida is out with its starting lineup. Keagan Rothrock back in the circle for the Gators after her complete game victory yesterday against Alabama. Rothrock gave up three earned runs and seven hits in seven innings against the Crimson Tide.

2:48 p.m.: Oklahoma posts its starting lineup, with Nicole May taking the circle for the Sooners today. May has a 14-2 record and 2.29 ERA. Her ERA is the highest among Oklahoma's three primary starters.

2:43 p.m.: The tarp is off the field at Devon Park.

2:18 p.m.: Should Florida win the first game, the rematch between the Gators and Sooners that would determine who moves on to the championship series would take place on Tuesday, not Monday as originally scheduled.

1:48 p.m.: First pitch is now scheduled for 3:06 p.m. ET, the NCAA announced Monday afternoon. That's about three hours after it was first scheduled and 90 minutes after it was set to begin following the initial delay.

The game will still be airing on ESPN.
