Millions of people around the world celebrate Christmas Day as the birth anniversary of Jesus on December 25. It is a religious and cultural celebration. Christmas Day is recognised as a public holiday, in many countries.

What is the birthplace of Jesus?

Jesus Christ is thought to have been born in Israel's Bethlehem. Mary and Joseph, who were engaged at the time of Jesus' birth, were his parents. When they arrived in the city, the inn was full, so they were given the option of staying in the stable where Jesus was born. The property is located in the location recognised by Christian tradition as the birthplace of Jesus since the second century, 10 kilometres south of Jerusalem. A church was first finished there in ad 339, and the structure that replaced it after a fire in the sixth century still has intricate floor mosaics from the original structure. According to UNESCO, the site also has churches and convents that are Latin, Greek Orthodox, Franciscan, and Armenian, as well as bell towers, terraced gardens, and a pilgrimage route.

The building is the earliest Christian church still in operation. One of the holiest places in all of Christendom, the location commemorates the founding of Christianity. The Pilgrimage route is the eastern portion of the established path from Jerusalem to the Church. Every year at Christmas celebrations, The Route is remembered as the route taken by Joseph and Mary on their journey to Bethlehem. According to the Gregorian calendar, the majority of Christians celebrate Christmas on December 25. However, some Eastern Christian Churches observe Christmas on December 25 in the older Julian calendar, which corresponds to January 7 in the Gregorian calendar.
