There’s something just so freeing about riding a bike. Every time I hop on and go for a ride, I instantly feel like a kid again. For me, choosing the right bike riding outfits plays a big part in the overall experience.

When it comes to what to wear while riding a bike, it can be a challenge. What’s something that’s comfy and practical yet appropriate for where I’m going?

I thought about this the first moment I got my bike.

During quarantine a few years ago, my cousin Tai sent a bike to me in New York from California. It was a huge surprise gift that came boxed in pieces.

I seriously doubted whether I could put it together. It took a while, and I had issues connecting the front wheel, left pedal, and back fender (which broke!). But after trial and error and watching countless how-to videos, it was finally complete.

The process of building a bike was a little reminder that good things take time, patience, and attention to detail.

If you’re running errands or just going for a long ride around your favorite city, aim for something comfy. Athleisure clothes and sneakers are the easiest way to look cool without trying too hard.

For casual outings, I usually throw on some iteration of a T-shirt, leggings, sneakers, and sunglasses. You can also layer on a sweatshirt or tuck it into a bike basket for when it gets chilly.

A backpack comes in handy for extra storage for things like bike locks and accessories. And stay hydrated with a Stanley tumbler and matching quencher carry-all (that doubles as a small purse!).

Countryside Getaway

When I think of the countryside, calming neutral-colored pieces come to mind for bike riding outfits. Just remember to stick to materials that aren’t prone to wrinkles.
