Where to buy the best vegan mince pies this Christmas (2024)

So you’ve bought the turkey, stowed away the Baileys and even helped yourself to a few chocolates of the Christmas tree, so by now you’re well and truly in the festive swing of things.

All is well until your brother-in-law waits until Christmas Eve to tell you he's bringing his girlfriend to Christmas dinner, who is vegan. “Brilliant!” you say through gritted teeth.

But, if you don’t have time to DIY it, dozens of supermarkets are now catering to those on a plant-based diet so they don’t miss out on all the fun this Christmas.

A Christmas classic, mince pies are sure to be a crowd pleaser, but are they vegan friendly? We’ve scoured the supermarkets to find the tastiest free-from mince pies for all vegans and non-vegans to enjoy.

Most mincemeat is vegan or vegetarian suet that is used in place of animal suet, so in most cases you’ll be in luck. The only thing that might make it not-so-vegan is the addition of brandy, as some types aren’t vegan. If you’re not sure, double check the ingredients label.

Last year, Asda became the first mainstream UK supermarket to launch vegan mince pies. This year, they’re back and better than ever.

And at just 97p, they’re the only six-pack you’ll be needing this Christmas.

Sainsbury’s has one of the best Free From ranges out there, and these mince pies are no exception.

These are gluten, wheat and milk free but still delicious with melt-in-the-mouth pastry.

A bit on the pricier side at £1.65 for four, but well worth it.

Waitrose have been beefing up (pun intended) their vegan range recently, and have this year branched out to vegan mince pies.

These gluten-free treats feature vine fruit mincemeat with spices, raisins, sultanas, currants and mixed peel – yum!

When there’s a will, there’s a way (to your nearest Greggs).

Proving a hit with vegans and non-vegans alike, these are best enjoyed relaxing with a cup of tea or coffee.
